Bushwalking and the Bibbulmun Track

There are numerous stunning walks around Honeymoon View, varying in time from 5 minutes to several hours. The following walks are described with the times given from Honeymoon View to the destination. So double the time for a return trip.

From the back of Honeymoon View, walk down toward the inlet and you will join the Bibbulmun track (3min). Here, the track passes through enormous Karri forest. If you turn to the right you will reach the Cove, where a short track takes you down to a pretty, shaded beach (10 min, second photo). If you continue on along the Bibbulmun track, you will pass a disused camp ground and then into Jarrah and Peppermint forest before you reach a few houses near Little River (30 min). Follow the Bibbulmun track markers (yellow triangles) along some streets to Little River and then cross on a suspension bridge (40min) and continue around the inlet for another 800m, where the track turns to take you inland and up Mt Hallowell (2 hours). Alternatively, from Honeymoon View if you turn left onto the Bibbulmun track, you will follow the inlet half way to Poison Point (15min), then turn inland to skirt away from housing, passing through bush, where many kangaroos are found, until you reach the Denmark River. You follow the river into town (1 hour).

Directly down from Honeymoon View a track takes you to the inlet (5min, top photo), then follows the edge of the water to the peninsula jutting out towards Honeymoon Island (15min). It takes you through a lichen covered paperbark grove to the granite rocks at the tip of the peninsula where some stunning views are to be found (2nd, 3rd photos). If you take the Bibbulmun track towards the Cove, another track leads you into the peninsula, through rich moss covered ground (10 min). From here, you can veer a little to the left and reach the paper bark area, or veer the right. This takes you through some dense forest to a small pioneer’s ruin (20 min).

Magic Circle

The other walk from here is the gravel track that takes you up towards the top of Weedon Hill. If you walk south along Payne Rd, then up the hill, the road will turn again. At this point a gravel track heads up the hill. Just after the crest of the hill a small track leads off to the right to the “Magic Circle”, a circle of large granite rocks (20 min, bottom photo).
